Sony’s 1080p KDL-40W4100 with Motionflow 120Hz technology doubles the number of existing frames by calculating in real time and inserting 60 entirely new frames between the original 60 frames, this creates a new standard for picture performance, with smooth, lifelike image quality that responds to the demands of even the fastest moving images with ease. Full HD 1080p means the W4100 connections accept 1080p signals and the Display will render that signal in Full HD 1080p. The latest version of Sony’s respected BRAVIA Engine fully Digital video processor uses a collection of unique SONY algorithms to significantly reduce noise and produce sharp, vibrant, life-like images. With Advanced Contrast Enhancer (ACE) you get real-time image processing to dynamically adjust backlight levels for improved Contrast without masking details the filmmaker intended you to see. User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Excellent product, excellent service.
Product arrived in two days, and is an excellent product at a price hundreds of dollars less than at retail stores in the Atlanta area.

4 Stars so far so good
Received the Sony Bravia tv that I ordered on time and in good condition. Driver was very courteous and plugged in tv to make sure it was working but despite what Amazon said he would do, he did not put it on the stand or hook anything up. I did all the labor but it was not really any problem at all. Directions were very easy to follow and understand to set tv up but be sure you read them all the way through before you start or you may have to reset again from beginning. Picture was absolutley beautiful in hi def.and the sound really dynamic…lots of choices to tweek the picture and sound but not really neccessary right now. Did’nt even have to upgrade to a cable box but just went right into tv and picked up even more stations than I was getting before, including digital and many in hi def. Some really cool features include the tv guide selection on the remote control, but it took about 2 weeks for it to finally load up and work properly instead of the 24-48 hrs Sony said but my guess is that it was a cable issue. All is working well and I hope will continue for a long time but I’ve only had it for a month and electronics can be tricky. Not sure if I will get the extended warranty but I probably will in time. I researched a long time to find the right lcd flat screen for me and I think I picked a winner. Works great with the vcr/dvd player I already had. It’s my first flat screen and my first purchase from Amazon. Saved big bucks over brick and mortor stores. I would do it again , but only from Amazon with I think a little better service.

5 Stars My 1st 1080p HDTV
This Sony Bravia 1080p 120Hz W-Series 40 inch is the best gift I’ve purchased for myself in years. Though technology is continuously advancing I purchased at a time when this item was at it’s lowest just above $1,000. Because just about everyone else purchased their huge LCD HDTV’s too early my “little” 40 inch is MORE advanced than theirs. This set has an AUTO adjust – meaning I was watching a regular DVD and the set auto adjusted to full screen. It also auto adjusted the cable HD channels to full screen the first time and it just stays full screen. The Cable HD channels are wonderfully clear and crisp however the 120Hz does not kick in. I think it’s because the networks are not that advanced enough just yet. So it’s just the 1080p HD that’s at work. BUT when watching a Blu Ray DVD or playing the PS3 games THAT’s when I can CLEARLY see the 120Hz working. I purchased special 120Hz HDMI 12 foot cables 10.3GBPS (from Amazon only $14 or $15) to ensure the picture quality is not lost. The picture is bright and very colorful. As technology advances this set will last through a few years because of the 120Hz. So it’s a great buy for today, especially before the stock market bounces back!

2 Stars Poor picture quality in low light
For me, this tv looks great when watching sports or similar during the day. When watching a movie at night, however, the picture is horrible. Way too much backlight bleed from the top two corners. I thought it must be a defect and had Sony ship out a new one … same problem. Then they sent someone out to look at it and ended up telling me this is just the way it is. They might be right as looking around the net you see many similar complaints.

Very disapointed – this is not the 5 star set as advertised on this site. Not much point to the blu-ray player I also purchased when the tv picture is so bad when showing a dark picture. Do not buy this tv if you want to watch movies.

4 Stars Great picture–input options limited
The picture and the transaction were (are) flawless. I bought this to solve an input problem with my home theatre, and it didn’t solve that, but otherwise, it’s a terrific TV.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Sony Bravia
We purchased this 19″ Sony Bravia Television to replace an old analog television in the bedroom of our 5th Wheel RV (mounts in a swing out cabinet). The picture and sound are great and passed our expectations but the best part is that the installation was a perfect fit with no pedestals to deal with. All we have to do is un-snap 2 clips and it becomes portable again and we can take it anywhere. We highly recommend it.

3 Stars Some real answers
I have yet to make my purchase of this product but I intend to make an informed decision. I would be using this TV at university to play my PS3 and X Box 360 pro using HDMI outputs. Also I would probably be bringing it to and from different places for system link games. Which is why the handle seems a good thing for me. All of the reviews for this product do not tackle the HD capabilities of this device… How does a Blu Ray, not upscaled DVD look, or how about gaming, can anyone help?

3 Stars Just OK
This Bravia replaced a Sharp Aquos counter top model which developed a shadow on the screen after about two years of use. It is larger (about 4″) picture wise than the Sharp and was the largest set I could find that would stand on the counter and fit under an overhead cabinet. It runs off a Direct TV, non-HDTV signal.

Factory preset picture settings were just awful with a very dark picture and odd glossy flesh tones. I tried to adjust the picture a number of times but finally realized I was trying to get the colors and resolution I was used to on the Sharp, which the Bravia apparently won’t do. If my set had true factory picture presets I can guarantee anyone else buying this set will be spending a lot of time trying to adjust the picture.

In addition, unless you are viewing the set from directly in front and at set level the picture washes out excessively which is annoying since a kitchen set is usually viewed from a number of angles.

I would definitely recommend viewing and comparing this set in a store before purchasing. I will probably be looking for a replacement set and relegate this one to a guest bedroom.

5 Stars Typical Sony Quality & Great Reception
This is the second 19-inch LCD HDTV that I have bought, and the first Sony for this size.

I bought this white Sony to place in my kitchen where I have had a black Sharp 19-inch LCD HDTV (which I moved to a bedroom). Well first I found that the color is bright and the blacks are solid giving it an excellent picture. This white Sony is also a very attractive unit and perfect to have in a nice kitchen. It is also solid and easy to adjust how straight it stands up.

Plus, using the exact same rabbit ears from the Sharp HDTV it’s replacing in my kitchen, for over the air digital channels, the Sony has much better reception. I’m able to pickup more digital channels then I could with the Sharp.

I would certainly buy this Sony HDTV again.

4 Stars Great Buy !
Just purchased one of these at Costco for $249.00. Will set up and advise on the quality. This is to be used in a kitchen.

5 Stars My new TV is awesome!
My new TV is awesome. It’s not big, but hey, our place isn’t too big either, so it works out. We mainly use it to play games and watch Hulu… and we got it at a great price. If I had anything to say, which is not really a negative, just me being extra picky, is that the description said that it was brown (which I knew that was why we got such a good deal. Who would want a brown TV? Well, me.) and when you see it, it barely has a little bit of brown tint on the base. It is mainly black. So, if you want a great price, a great TV, and are not looking for a giant screen, this is your choice for a quality LCD.

5 Stars sony still the best
best picture composition of any tv i have ever seen. audio out should be upgraded to a toslink cable.

5 Stars Just What I Expected
Bought the Sony Bravia 26inch for my workdesk and I received exactly what I expected…a perfect LCD! It has an easy to use remote and the picture is bright and clear…don’t even need external speakers.

5 Stars Great TV!
This is our second Sony Bravia and we like this smaller one for our bedroom just as much as our larger one in the living room. A really wonderful TV!

5 Stars An Excellent LCD HDTV
I purchased this LCD HGTV and I am very pleased. It is a quality TV. The picture is excellent!!! The sound is excellent too because the speakers extend the front length of the TV. It was easy to assemble, and the setup was easy too. The manual and instruction sheets are easy to follow. I don’t have one complaint about this TV. I got it at a reduced price and that makes it even more special!

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Not Much Contribution from Rear Speakers
Sound is GREAT through Audio-Tech headphones, but the rear surround speakers produce little sound, almost imperceptible in most situations, and there is NO CONTROL to bring up the volume and balance the sound to my ear from the different speakers like my old Panasonic had. Spending the $50 more to get capability for surround wireless in the future is a rip off. I recommend just get the plain wired, or pay the extra for the surround speaker in the wireless. Programs with my new Panasonic plasma just fine. Good features: 5-disk tray, HDMI ready, automatically lowers the sound level to low on shutdown so you are not blasted out of the room when next turning it on.

4 Stars The little HTIB that could…
Installed this yesterday w/a new Sony Bravia 46″ LCD TV.

The TV and the receiver interface pretty well…out of the box they can “talk” to each other if connected via HDMI and optical out from the TV to the receiver, and the changing inputs on the TV will make appropriate changes to the audio output selected. There is an option to tell the Sony TV remote which AV/Receiver you are using, so that it can do double duty. So now I can turn both the TV and the reciever on/off with one button, choose a video input and the audio is switched automatically, etc. (The Sony feature is called something like “HDMI Sync.”)

The sound of the unit is much better than I expected. It’s not going to make an audiophile give up their high-end systems, and can’t match the setup in my main room, but it is going to be more than adequate for most listeners and for folks looking for a compact system. It has enough power to fill a big room nicely with a big sound, and the subwoofer is powerful enough to rattle your walls and windows. :)

It comes with a nice feature…a microphone you attach to the receiver and then set in the middle of the room. The receiver then automatically tunes the speaker levels to the appropriate level. I haven’t done that yet (have to get the rear surrounds hung), but if it works OK it will be a nice feature.

The iPod dock included only supports audio…a big disappointment. Why they stopped at audio is hard to understand…iPod video is at least as important now as audio playback. Oh well…

The included wireless speaker seems like a solution in search of a problem we don’t have. Allows listening to the audio playing on the receiver in different rooms (or outside).

We’re really not sure if we’ll use it or not…we have radios pretty much anywhere we want to listen to the radio, and don’t see any need to hear the TV from another room where I can’t see the TV.

This is an all-plastic speaker set…you won’t find any fabric or wood here, but they still look nice and don’t feel cheap.

Overall I’d say this is a good system with a nice sound. Paired w/a Sony Bravia TV it makes a nice, easy to use combination.

4 Stars sony with samsung tv
Read the description and it sounded great to have wireless audio in separate rooms from one source. As this system was intended to install directly with new Sony TV, systems compatibility wasn’t questioned. TV couldn’t be delivered – out of stock – and was ‘upgraded’ to ~better Samsung model. System sounds great, but all these speakers are ‘hard wired’ to source. Wireless receiver module is included, but one needs to buy other wireless compatible speakers to augment this system for the main room or for other rooms. So, for a true surround sound system out of the box, it’s not wireless. You still need to run wire, drill holes, crawl the attic or under-floor, etc. to install the basic system. Other rooms can get wireless speaker/s, but you gotta buy them. If it stated that this system couldn’t operate all speakers provided wirelessly, I would have continued looking. Doesn’t really tell you this and the photo doesn’t show a bunch of dangly wires protruding out the back, but that’s marketing for you. Still, this cranks the living room of my small house and sounds better that the new TV speakers alone but still, it’s not as nice as my Onkyo receiver and two powerful in-wall speakers and one wired sub from an install 5 years ago. You can feel the walls and floor vibrating. Could of just as easily crawled the attic and installed a few more speakers and connected to the existing system. Still, I didn’t send it back, did I?

2 Stars Below Par….Grossly disappointing
I bought it on the labor day sale at [...] for a neat discount. Used it for 2 weeks and then packed it and its in storage right now. Replaced it with Onkyo S5100. Wanted to send it back after 3 days, got a RMA too but then planned to gift it to my parents with 5 speakers from other company because my parents are not audiophiles at all.

Features I Loved: I loved the subwoofer. Compact but very nice and punchy bass, looks good too.

Features I felt Good: 5 disk DVD changer is handy in that you donot have to stand up to change disks. Amplifier seems to output decent power.

Average Features: 1080p upscaling very average. I have a oppo-980H which is far better.Remote is OK.

Bad Features:

1. The system works on 48KHz Signal. It is surprising that when most other companies are pushing almost to 192KHz signal, this top of the Sony Line(Including HDX275, 279, 576 etc etc). My sound card is at least an order magnitude clearer.

2. Horrible speakers, I have no words to emphasis this. Not even worth 10$ for all five of them. I threw them to make space. Sounded hollow and do not know why they have a port(Bass reflex). Its a joke that these are sold as full range as they have only 2.5″ drivers which produce only some below average midrange, forget anything else. About Audio power, I think Sony missed decimals in all the figures. 84W should have been 8.4W

3. Proprietary connectors. Why?? No idea!!!! Cheap plastic. If one breaks, you will have to call sony and considering that the warranty is only one year, you know what you can run into. Wiring is too cheap.

4. S-Air is a joke too. First of all, Let me confess that I do not believe in wireless audio connector for fidelity and interference . But still thought can make a use of it in the bathroom, but it the signal is far from steady even when separated by a thin 1 cm wooden wall. The walls in my apartment are cheap but still it does not work and yes it will not give you loud sound just may be a total of 10W and why somebody will use it in the same room as the Home theater might be a stupid question.

5. False information about Wireless technology. This system is NOT supposed to have wireless rear speakers. Rear speakers need to be wired. Its called wireless because it comes with the SA unit which is not more than a over hyped FM-Radio set (or if you know, not even that as it needs to communicate with the central unit for radio too)

6. Cheap Ipod stand.

7. Central Unit has only 2 digital inputs and the preference for inputs is automatic.

Most of this should also be true for DAVHDX279 and DAVHDX576W as they come with the same central unit, speakers and subwoofer. DAVHDX279 may have wireless speakers which is a plus point and DAVHDX576 is DAVHDX279 with the same SA unit I talked above.
